Palm Sunday

Mark II:I-II Darby Translation (DARBY)

11 And when they draw near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sends two of his disciples,

2 and says to them, Go into the village which is over against you, and immediately on entering into it ye will find a colt tied, upon which no [child] of man has ever sat: loose it and lead it [here].

3 And if any one say to you, Why do ye this? say, The Lord has need of it; and straightway he sends it hither.

4 And they departed, and found a colt bound to the door without at the crossway, and they loose him.

5 And some of those who stood there said to them, What are ye doing, loosing the colt?

6 And they said to them as Jesus had commanded. And they let them [do it].

7 And they led the colt to Jesus, and cast their clothes upon it, and he sat on it;

8 and many strewed their clothes on the way, and others cut down branches from the trees [and went on strewing them on the way].

9 And those going on before and those following cried out, Hosanna! blessed [be] he that comes in [the] Lord's name.

10 Blessed [be] the coming kingdom of our father David. Hosanna in the highest!

11 And he entered into Jerusalem and into the temple; and having looked round on all things, the hour being already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

Jesus rode into Jerusalem to make public His claim to be their Messiah and King of Israel.(Zechariah 9:9) Jesus receives the praise of the people because He deserves it. No longer does Jesus tell his disciples to be quiet about Him, but to shout His praises and worship Him openly.

When Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem, Israel was under the rule of the Roman empire. The crowd saw Jesus as someone who would lead them in a revolt against Rome, not as their savior from sin.

Their desire was for someone who would end their sufferings and trials on earth. But when He failed in their expectations, when He refused to end the reign of their tormentors, the crowds turned on Him. Their shouts of "Hosanna" quickly changed to,"Crucify Him!"

Today, I have heard the crowds shouting "Hosanna." And Jesus in His mighty power can end the rule of the virus this very second. Jesus rules over all things.

But... Jesus knows our hearts. And Jesus came to rule our hearts not nations.

Jesus came to save us from our sins. He came to give us peace with God.

If things don't happen the way you think they should go in the coming weeks, don't turn as the crowds did. Jesus is the true King, living and reigning in our hearts.

Pain will afflict each one of us. Suffering is unavoidable in this life. Will you belief and relationship with God be enough to keep Jesus as Lord when trials come? Will you trust Him through your suffering even though we cannot understand our circumstances?

Pray for a right understanding of Him so that you may see your situation through His eyes.
